OS-HELP is a loan from the Australian Government for students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place who want to study some of their course overseas. It allows you to borrow up to $8,149, which you pay back via your HELP debt. Like other HELP debts, it is interest-free and fee-free.
You can use the funds to pay for airfares, accommodation or other travel costs.
You cannot get OS-HELP if you are enrolled at or your qualification will be awarded by an overseas university or higher education provider.
Roam’s overseas programs as specifically designed to meet key OS-HELP criteria, meaning eligible students should be able to access the scheme. We will assist you through the process of obtaining OS-HELP as part of our application and acceptance process.
- You are a domestic student on HELP
- The overseas program counts for credit towards your current Australian degree
- You have completed 1 year of study by the time you apply for OS-HELP and have at least 1 subject left to complete after you return from the overseas program
If so, you may be eligible for an OS HELP loan.
How to Apply for an OS-HELP Loan?
Students can apply for OS-HELP through their home university once they have been accepted by Roam. Your Roam acceptance letter is usually required to support the OS-HELP application. A step-by-step document on how to apply for OS-HELP will be provided to students during the application process.
